This blog is dedicated to documenting the adventures of our small ocean-going yacht, Auriga.
We bought Auriga on July the 7th 2013. Us, that is three PhD students at the University of Cambridge who discovered there is life outside the lab: GiuliaTyzack, Matt Scott and Igor Gotlibovych.
Auriga, and Albin Ballad, was built in 1973 in Sweden as an IOR cruiser racer. The Ballad is 30ft (9.14m) long and renowned for its offshore capabilities. The previous owner has successfully sailed Auriga across the Atlantic and back, and and this is reflected in the equipment and inventory on board.
Things have been happening so fast in the last month that the blog will necessarily struggle to keep up. Bear with us while we bring you current updates, musings on the highs and lows of owning a 40 year old boat, and technical details all but the interested few can safely ignore.
